Alchemy Guide 1-450

This alchemy guide is designed to aid you in leveling your alchemy skill from level 1-450.  While you may find alternative routes along the way this guide is in my experiences the fastest and cheapest route to 450.  If you fail to follow this alchemy guide closely you may buy mats you will never need and waste valuable gold.

If you are unsure of which profession other than alchemy you are going to choose I suggest Herbalism as the two go together nicely.  If once you’re finished with this alchemy guide you’d like to learn more about Herbalism you can check out my Herbalism Guide.

Although I have made every effort to make leveling your alchemy as affordable as possible it will still take a considerable amount of gold especially if you are buying mats.  If you find yourself low on gold I suggest investing in the Secret Gold Guide.

**I know many people are wondering where the shopping list is at that many alchemy guides feature.  I do not offer a shopping list in this alchemy guide for one reason.  Its impossible to know exactly how many mats you are going to need and a shopping list only encourages you to buy too many mats and have leftovers.  Instead I recommend leveling your alchemy in a major city with an auction house so you can visit it when necessary to purchase mats AS NEEDED.

Alchemy Mastery

When you reach 325 Alchemy (and level 68) you can choose a mastery.  There are three masteries for Alchemists.  They include potion master, elixir master, and transmute master.  Choose carefully as once you select a mastery it cost 150 gold to respec to a different mastery.  So what does a mastery do? When you create items you have a chance to “proc.”  This means you may create up to five of the item from one set of mats.  If you are a potion master for example you have a chance to make up to five potions each time you create one.  Each mastery has a quest associated with it. Potion and Elixir masters must run old instances which can be a real pain although the LFG tool does help some.  The good news is I recommend transmute spec anyway.  It is where the real gold is at.  At 450 you’ll learn to transmute epic gems and we all know there is serious gold in the gem market.

One last thing before we close this section. Once you hit 450 Alchemy make sure you pick up your epic gem quest from the trainer in Dalaran. Even if you didn’t master in transmutes you want to pick this quest up.
